Read in 2025
- a philosophy of software design — John k. Ousterhout; 7/10; good book, enjoyed it. Hedges itself a lot (bc it’s hard to be overly dogmatic about philosophy of design without properly acknowledging other solid contrasting philosophies) but learned a lot from it.
- The art and science of doing engineering — Hammond; 6/10; has great stories and intuitions that can be developed while reading it. But it’s outdated (from 1990) and reads like an older person misremembering their true experiences in a way that makes their experience seem more grandiose. Lots of masturbatory stories of his great influence on everyone around him, which is a little “eye rolls”
